Don't be Dopey..or Sleepy!

Are you feeling sluggish and need a pick me up to get through the day?  There are many reasons why you are tired but lack of sleep and not eating correctly are two of the big culprits.  (did you really think that Mountain Dew and a sweet roll would be good for you??)  Here are a few of my favorite ways to perk up so you can be at your best the whole day.
1- Eat an apple. I always have an apple in my lunch bag or on my desk.  It keeps me from reaching for something calorie laden, it is sweet and crunchy and the natural sugars convert to energy.  There are loads of different kinds of apples, try them all to find your favorite.
2- Do 5 or more push ups.  It's amazing how exerting some energy can give you some pep! 
3-Drink something.  Many times we feel tired because we are dehydrated.  Water is always a good choice, but green tea, which contains a small amount of caffeine, is another great option. 
4- If possible, take a 15-30 minute power nap to refresh your system.  If my office door is closed, come back later!! 
5- Go outside.  Take a 5 minute brisk walk.  It's a bonus if the sun is shining as Vitamin D can boost your mood and mental performance.
6- Meditate.  No computer, no phone, no distractions for 5-10 minutes.  Close your eyes, inhale and exhale deeply.  Put your mind on vacation.  When you are done, stretch and get back to work!
